 Marcopolo's minibus brand: Volare

Rural charter demand grows in the South, Midwest, and Southeast

According to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), the 6.75% increase in agribusiness this year has caused positive impacts on the transport sector. This contributed to a 66% increase in the daily production of Volare, which went from 12 to 20 units per day.

“Poultry, pig farming, coffee, sugar cane and wood extraction for pulp production are the main segments that boosted the demand for these vehicles, mainly in the states of the South, Southeast and Midwest”, reports Sidnei Vargas, national manager of Volare's Internal Market.

“As according to health recommendations, minibuses started to replace vans due to their greater seating capacity and greater distance between passengers, which caused an order increase after the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, therefore, leading us to increase production”, he adds.

In the case of agribusiness, the brand sells vehicles for chartering professionals both to farms and to the slaughterhouses. “The Attack 8 Rural and Attack 9 Rural models, customized for bird catching activities, are approved to serve companies across the country,” says Vargas.

This year, the company Azul Locadora, located in São Paulo, has purchased five vehicles for poultry handling and transportation (PHT), serving a local customer.

“The demand for transport grew during the Covid-19 pandemic and it was necessary to double the fleet of minibuses to respect the social distancing rules. In addition, with companies increasingly concerns about transporting their employees safely, we have won more contracts, especially in the South and Southeast”, explains Bruno Sylvestre, owner of Azul Locadora.

In September, Volare delivered to the multinational WestRock (forestry sector) in the south of the country, the first micro-bus equipped with the BioSafe platform, featuring biosafety innovations to prevent contamination by viruses (including the new Coronavirus) and bacteria. The vehicle transports the company’s employees to the facilities located in the state of Santa Catarina, through the charter company Vida Amiga.

“The agro and mining sectors together are responsible for about 20% of our sales”, says the Volare executive.

Volare is a leader in the minibus manufacturing, and it operates in 35 countries in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. In 2019, the brand’s revenue was BRL 634.238 million, including sales in the foreign and domestic markets.
