Even in a downward trend, Marcopolo's mini bus brand reaches 32.3% of the market share in the region
Even with the transportation market in a downward trend as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, Volare, Marcopolo's brand of mini buses, grew 13.5% in the market share in the state of São Paulo in 2020, reaching 32.3%. The growth goes against the national context, which saw the number of license plates issued shrink by 33% last year, according to Federação da Distribuição de Veículos Automotores [Federation of motor vehicle distribution] (Fenabrave).
Fly, the Volare dealership for the greater São Paulo area and Baixada Santista, sold 112 vehicles in the last year and points out that Fly Executive line models, designed for the city, and the Attack line, special for use in the field and on rough terrain, dominate sales.
“Most of the customers are charter companies looking to increase or renew their fleet. The Covid-19 pandemic created requirements for passenger transport and social distancing rules that boosted sales for chartering and urban use, as companies began choosing mini buses instead of vans to transport employees” , Jeferson Paesi, Manager of Fly SP.
To meet these new requirements, Baruel, a charter and tourism company in Osasco (SP) and Volare´s customer since 2005, expanded their fleet and acquired six vehicles to meet the demand to continuously charter employees for pharmaceutical industries, highway concessionaires and multinational paint and electronic companies. The company has acquired 16 mini buses from the brand since 2019 and highlights Volare's safety, comfort and reliability for passenger transport.“Each year, we manage to increase our fleet. In addition to reliability, Volare credits the preference of the São Paulo market to the innovations of the brand's vehicles, which are adaptable to various uses in urban and rural environments.
“In the field, agribusiness was responsible for the increase in sales, and Volare´s mini buses are used both for chartering professionals to and from the farms and for transporting them to the poultry slaughtering units, for example. In addition, the Attack 8 Rural and Attack 9 Rural models can be customized for poultry slaughtering activities”, explains Sidnei Vargas, national manager of Volare's Domestic Market.
Volare's production grew 66% in 2020, compared to 2019. It went from 12 to 20 buses a day, largely due to the agro market heating up in the Southeast, Midwest and Southern regions. The brand is a leader in the mini bus sector and operates in 35 countries in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.
